Dog Supplement Report publishes investigative journalism about the pet supplement industry. Our credibility depends on the rigor of our methods, so we publish them. This policy describes how our reporting is produced, verified, and corrected.
Reporting Standards
Our journalism is document-driven and verification-first:
- Primary sources first. We build stories on regulatory records, court and corporate filings, laboratory results, and firsthand accounts — not on press releases or secondary coverage.
- Records requests. We file freedom-of-information and public-records requests to obtain documents that are not voluntarily disclosed.
- Independent testing. Where a story turns on what is actually in a product, we commission testing by independent laboratories and report the methodology.
- Multiple corroboration. Significant factual allegations are corroborated by documents or multiple independent sources before publication.
Fairness and Right of Reply
Companies and individuals who are the subject of critical reporting are given a genuine opportunity to respond before publication, with reasonable deadlines. Material responses are published, either within the story or as a follow-up. A subject’s refusal to respond is noted; their silence is never treated as an admission.
Sourcing and Confidentiality
We protect confidential sources. Where we grant confidentiality, it is by agreement, and we corroborate what those sources provide wherever possible. We identify sources by name whenever we can, so readers can evaluate their credibility. Anonymous claims that cannot be corroborated are not published.
Fact-Checking and Legal Review
Every story is fact-checked before publication: documents are re-verified, quotes are confirmed against recordings or transcripts, and numerical claims are traced to their source. Stories carrying significant legal risk receive legal review. Our editors — not our subjects, our advertisers, or our lawyers’ comfort — decide what runs.
Use of AI Tools
We may use AI tools for research assistance, transcription, and drafting support. AI output is never published without human verification. Every fact in our reporting is checked by a reporter and approved by an editor, and the newsroom takes full responsibility for what we publish.
Corrections and Updates
When we are wrong, we correct — visibly, promptly, and without hedging. Material corrections are labeled and dated within the affected story. Developing stories are updated as new information is verified, with updates clearly marked. The full process is in our Corrections Policy.
Independence
Our reporting is independent of all commercial interest. We do not accept advertising from active coverage subjects, we do not accept payment for coverage, and no outside party reviews our stories before publication. Funding details are in our Disclosure.
