The marketing copy reads like a multivitamin manifesto: gut, skin, joints, immunity, fresh breath. Five systems, one jar.
Our review of Amazon’s 50 best-selling dog supplements in May 2026 found that 39 of them (78%) made claims addressing four or more health systems. Only four products (8%) focused on a single condition. The remainder hovered between two and three claims, a category that almost didn’t exist five years ago.
The shift is not accidental. Market research firm Grand View Research valued the global pet supplement market at $2.7 billion in 2024, with multi-claim formulations identified as the fastest-growing segment. The logic from a manufacturer’s perspective is simple: a product that promises everything appeals to every buyer, commands a higher price point, and competes less directly with single-condition alternatives.

What the Labels Actually Show
To test whether multi-claim products deliver what they promise, we purchased four popular brands that advertise coverage across four or more health systems and submitted them to standard label analysis: ingredient disclosure, dose comparison to published effective ranges, and conflict screening.
The results were consistent across all four.
The Proprietary Blend Problem
Three of the four products used proprietary blends to list their ingredients, a practice we have examined in detail in a previous investigation. Under current FDA labeling rules for pet supplements, a “proprietary blend” can list ingredients in descending order by weight without disclosing individual amounts. A label might read “Proprietary Gut-Health Blend: 800 mg” and include five ingredients, with no way for a buyer to know whether the active component is 750 mg or 50 mg.
This is technically legal. It is also functionally opaque.
Dose Comparison to Published Effective Ranges
We compared each disclosed ingredient to the dosing ranges in peer-reviewed canine research.
For omega-3 fatty acids (EPA + DHA), studies demonstrating measurable anti-inflammatory effects in dogs with osteoarthritis typically use 50–75 mg/kg of combined EPA and DHA daily.
